Business Description: Alvin Pates is a humanitarian, who has devoted his life to help the poors and eliminate poverty. There is, however, a solution to extreme poverty, and generally, all poverty in the Third World. Presently, food is supplied via relief agencies and the United Nations, by shipping surplus produce from the First World to needy countries. It is precisely that difference in productivity, which is a contributing factor to the plight of those people.
Alvin Pates comparatively analyzed that, in economic terms, it means that on a unit of land in the First World, the yield is of higher quality and quantity than the same plot of land in the Third World would be. On the world agricultural market, the most efficiently produced goods sell for the best price, and they are those that are purchased. A farmer in Africa for example, would not be able to compete, because his cost of producing a unit of agricultural output is higher than in the West. Add the dumping of excess production in the Third World, and the price of food becomes much lower, which makes agricultural initiative in the recipient countries impossible and non-profitable.
